I mentioned in my 2015 Best in Beauty that I would be reviewing the Laura Mercier Lip Paint in Vermillion Red separately. (I still love that lip gloss.) That’s queued for review and I thought I would post ahead my last quarter of 2015 choice of lippies. Even though there is no fall or winter in the Philippines, my choices were based on the shade choices for those seasons 😛
Wet n Wild MegaLast Lipstick in Bare It All (902C)
I fell in love with this the moment I used it.
Since I have fair skin, I often skip nude lispticks because they’re usually too pale for me and would wash out my face. But I got curious with Wet n Wild’s MegaLast In the Flesh lipstick because it had rave reviews. The stall at The Landmark Makati didn’t have that shade though. I got Bare It All instead. I did like Bare It all the moment I swatched it. It is medium beige with no hint of pink, which is what I want in a nude lipstick.
The MegaLast line are all matte shades. Unlike Mac’s mattes (because I don’t think I have matte shades from other brands for comparison), they are non-drying. Bare It All is slightly creamy that it applies on easily and has a smooth finish, evenly covering the lines on my lips. Wet n Wild don’t call their lipsticks MegaLast for nothing. Longevity of this nude lipstick lasts really long.
Only thing I dislike is you can’t fully twist down the lipstick. A bit extends from the case (I hope that makes sense) unlike most lipsticks. (Just refer to picture, since I can’t properly describe it. LOL) Although the extended part is good for checking the color when buying, it can be bothersome. I need to be careful when putting the cap back on, otherwise I could hit or scrape the lipstick or smudge the lipstick in the cap. Mine didn’t stay clean after my first use actually. 😛
Bare It All is my first favorite from Wet n Wild. I believe this shade is flattering for most skin tones and would pair well even with day or light eye makeup. Also, besides the case, they seem to be worth more than they are. Wet n Wild Megalast Lipsticks are very affordable at only PhP299 in department and drug stores (where available).
MAC Matte Sin
Ultimately drying, but hard to resist that fierce color
Mac Sin is a very deep burgundy with brown undertones lipstick and is part of the permanent matte range. On me, it actually looks more brown.
Mac’s matte lipsticks are known to be drying. This is no exception. With unprepped lips, this can be blotchy and difficult to apply. The color payoff is amazing though as it is very opaque on the first swipe. Longevity is very good too. I never experienced bleeding. But I find that, after a meal, I need to reapply especially on the inner part of my lips.
If you have yet to own a matte Mac lipstick and want this shade so much, then I have to say again that this and the other mattes are very drying.
I bought my Sin bullet from the Singapore Changi Airport and costs SGD29, I think. Last time I asked in the nearby local shop (that’s MAC Glorietta), they were out of stock. So, if you really like this and see it available, don’t have second thoughts!
Maybelline ColorShow Creamy Matte LipColor in Bold Crimson
Candy-scented red lipstick
I only had this because it was on sale and maybe I just want to review, at the time, several red lipsticks. 😛
Bold Crimson is deep red with a semi-opaque and smooth finish and doesn’t feel heavy on the lips. Though I experienced some tugging when applying. It’s also non-drying and slightly moisturizing. The lipstick feels solid, yet, because it’s cheap (and feels so), I thought this would break off. Thank god it didn’t. Longevity is at three hours, which is decent enough. Since this is another drugstore product, price isn’t bad either. I think I bought this at around PhP149 or PhP199.
I do want to like this lipstick, but its candy scent turns me off. It’s like having candy in my mouth. I actually got sore throat when I had it on. Was the lipstick definitely sweet? I don’t know, but I stopped using after a couple of uses.
The cheap price and good color payoff would be the reasons I would recommend this _if_ you don’t mind the candy scent and taste.
NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick in Cruella
Just praises for this lip pencil
Cruella is a matte crimson red lip pencil that glides on easily and has a smooth finish. This is slightly drying, but not as much a Mac matte would–Like the moisture is being sucked out of your lips. The lip color lasts at around five hours or longer and leaves a stain when the color fades. Obviously, because it is a pencil, it needs to be sharpened. That might be a hassle for some if you don’t want to bring a sharpener in your handbag or purse. It takes several uses though before the need to sharpen.
I’ve gotten asked a few times on this lip color. People adore and love it and so do I! The crimson red is so sexy. 😀
There’s only one con with this. I’m sure it’s obvious–The high price as it is the most expensive among these lippies at around PhP1450.
This must be the longest post I’ve done here. Here are swatches of the five:
