I have a few matte lipsticks already, but lately I’ve been buying more especially after discovering Wet n’ Wild’s Megalast Lip Color. I’ve been on a lookout for other budget matte lipsticks since. I found City Color’s Be Matte Lipsticks while I searched for Wet n’ Wild’s Vamp It Up (or was it Cherry Bomb?) at Pure Beauty Glorietta. I bought two shades, which were on sale as a Valentine’s Day promo.
City Color Be Matte Lipstick in Brianda (M24)
Brianda is a blue-based deep red that’s very opaque. It doesn’t dry out and tug my lips. Also, it stays on for hours. I absolutely love the shade, but it feels too thick and heavy when I do more than a couple of swipes. It becomes flaky too and has a scent similar to Kisses. Remember the aroma beads? The lipstick smells like that! Even my boyfriend thinks so. I could ignore the scent because it’s not that strong and dissipates quickly. Still annoying though.
City Color Be Matte Lipstick in Gwen (M30)
Gwen is a wine shade, which has a slight shine/sheen finish. It goes on a little sheer at first application, but may be intensified. This glides on smoothly; it doesn’t tug nor dry my lips. Longevity is fine, yet not very kiss-proof. It doesn’t stay on as long as Brianda. The lipstick has the same Kisses scent. There’s only one con to the lipstick–It’s very patchy! I swear it’s not my lips.
I look as though I had glasses of wine. (I wish that’s true!)
The lipsticks come in plastic packaging with a clear cap that locks on tight enough to prevent accidental uncapping. I guess it comes with the price, but the packaging can be better. There are other lipsticks at the same price point that has better packaging.
Each lipstick costs around the same price as the Wet n’ Wild Megalast Lip Colors at PhP299, if I remember right. For that price, you get 2.9g of product, which seems less than other lipsticks. (The Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick is 4g.)
I really tried to make these two work for me, but they won’t. I thought I found the second best budget matte lippies next to Wet n Wild’s. 🙁
Their lipsticks do work for some, so they’re still worth checking out. They’re available at Pure Beauty (I only know of the Serendra and Glorietta branches).
