I’m reviewing two eyeliners today — The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil and Artist’s Eye Pencil. Both are good eye liners and are better than those I had before (also from the same brand). These don’t sting when my eyes get wet. 😀
Estee Lauder Artist’s Eye Pencil in Softsmudge Brown
Reviewing this first because I’ve had this longer than the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil. 🙂
This is the second brown eye pencil I have from Estee Lauder; better than the first one I had. The shade is a matte dark hazel brown. It barely smudges nor transfers to my lower lids and does not give me panda eyes, but that could be because of the primer I use. There is slight fading after 6 to 8 hours of wear, but it does stay on more than that. Considering its longevity, this isn’t hard to remove with any eye makeup remover I have.
The pencil glides smoothly on application even though the lead isn’t that soft. It takes several uses before I have to sharpen it which is a plus for an expensive eye pencil.
Its cap is its only downside. Right now it already has cracks and has loosen a bit. One time, the pencil tip has reached the bottom of the cap causing it to go flat and create a mess. It’s not that of a big deal especially when you wouldn’t have to bring it around with you or if you’re more careful than I am.
Anyway, you may want to put this eye pencil into consideration if you’re looking for an HG eyeliner.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Onyx
This came with the Ultimate Color Holiday 2012 Collection. (Yeah, it takes me forever to use everything in that set.) This is a sample size, so it doesn’t come with a smudger.
Onyx is matte black. To achieve a true solid black, you need to apply more. I don’t do that because I like it as is. This eye pencil is better than the Artist’s Eye Pencil in regards to longevity. Also, lesser to none smudges. I was able to test it while sweating out in the gym just this Monday. 😀 Application goes on smoothly. No tugging at all.
This is the most difficult to remove between the two which only proves how long-lasting it is.
I definitely and highly recommend this one. I like it more than the Artist’s Eye Pencil. 😀 My only problem with it is that its soft lead requires sharpening with only after a couple of use.
Here are their swatches:
The Softsmudge Brown isn’t buildable but its creaminess makes it smudgeable to the desired finish.
Oh! I tried to wash these swatches in the shower. 😀 I already needed to prep for a night-out after I took a shot of the swatches.
So… Both had quickly faded which is a surprise. But Onyx stayed on longer than Softsmudge Brown. Neither did leave any emo-like mess, so I believe it would be safe if I happen to get wet with rain (most possible scenario) and I wouldn’t look like I’m making dramuhhh~ Wait, that scenario did happen when I was at Fête de la Musique last night! I had Onyx on. It was pouring, but tolerable for us to still be at the main stage. I asked my boyfriend if the eyeliner and mascara were running and he said no. 😀
I’m considering trying gel eyeliners like that from K-Palette. I tried it when I went out with my boyfriend to have lunch. We passed by Beauty Bar and, since I had forgotten to put eyeliner that day, I urged him that we go there. I was scared at first, but applying it was surprisingly easy!
Do share your thoughts and recommendations please on gel eyeliners. 😀
