Love to sing in the shower? Oh come on, while the water’s running and you think no one but the shampoo bottles can hear, don’t you just want to belt out a song or two to let out how you feel? Isn’t that refreshing?
Now turn that into a digital contest and what do you get?
Dove’s Showeroke was a competition inviting everyone who loves to sing in the shower to upload a video of them performing a choice of shower song while holding one of Dove’s Go Fresh products (Dove Go Fresh Beauty Bar, Body Wash or Deodorant Stick). Last June 22, 2010, Shabby and I (Karen couldn’t make it) gave witness to Dove’s first ever Showeroke at Strumm’s as 8 finalists duked it out to be the ultimate shower diva.
The judges were commercial director Gerald Santos, Dove Skin Brand Manager Simoun Ferrer, ABS-CBN’s talent manager and director Johnny Manahan’s daughter, Juana Manahan-Yupangco, and Australian music producer Daniel Lagdameo. Judging style was ala-American Idol, where the judges one by one comment on how your performance was. There was one Simoun Ferrer to live up to the name, too.
Sai Sayson, who sang Bic Runga’s Sway, won the Bloggers’ Choice Award. The trio: Anna, Maisa, and Gold won runner-up after presenting a very energetic mash up of Pink’s Get This Party Started, Rihanna’s Umbrella, and Katrina & the Waves’ Walking on Sunshine. But the winning performance was by Pebbles Duque who owned the stage and rocked out to Sweet Child of Mine (Guns N’ Roses), winning for herself a Dove gift pack, a dinner for two at Chelsea Market and Café, and the title of Dove’s first ever Showeroke queen. Congratulations Pebbles!
After the competition, the stage was open to anyone and everyone who wants to sing with the band. Although Shabby and I were coaxing each other, we didn’t sing and instead enjoyed a few of the drinks from the bar, and watched while others sing some of our favorite videoke songs. Suffice to say, it was a very entertaining night and I missed having videoke nights with my friends.
