Normally, I stick to one palette for a month then move on to another by next because I have so many! I meant to use only the Laura Mercier Holiday 2013 Palette for this month, but I can’t keep myself from also using In theBalm of Your Hand.
When I saw the palette online, I knew I had to have it because it has Mary-Lou Manizer, Bahama Mama, and an Instain blush. Oh my goodness, I so badly wanted it! I made sure I had the dough before I checked Beauty Bar though, so I can quickly purchase it in case they have it. Of course it was a happy ending for moi. 😀
Before I go on my review, just an fyi that the lip colors aren’t included in this review.
In theBalm of Your Hand palette is, as expected, made of thick cardboard with magnetized flaps. Based on my experience with theBalm Sexy Mama, the cardboard is quite sturdy and the flaps don’t easily open. It comes with a cardboard sleeve for more security.
CabanaBoy is a pink-mauve eye shadow and blush with slight shimmers, but I find it quite matte.
Instain Argyle is a light peach-pink blush/eye shadow that has a very natural blush finish.
Hot Mama is shimmery, golden peach.
Bahama Mama is matte brown and the deepest bronzer and contour I have yet.
My most favorite among the four would be Hot Mama as it is a blush+highlighter. I ♥ how it brightens and gives a natural flush on my cheeks. Instain Argyle is what I use when I feel like wearing a dark lipstick. Bahama Mama is my choice of contour powder right now.
Here are swatches of the eye shadows/liners:
Mary-Lou Manizer is the oh-so-popular highlighter. 🙂
Balm Jovi Lead Zeppelin is deep moss-green with gold shimmer.
Nude’tude Sexy is very dark maroon that looks more of a deep brown when applied.
Shady Lady Mischievous Marissa (spelled Mischevious on the palette O_o) is light gold-bronze.
Shady Lady Insane Jane is a metallic olive green. Although for others it looks metallic taupe.
Mary-Lou Manizer is the best luminizer I’ve used. I apply this just on my cheek bones most often, but some times also on my brow bone, cupid’s bow, and chin. I don’t put this on my nose because it has a ‘natural highlighter’ already. LOL! Shady Lady Mischievous Marissa and Insane Jane are what I use for a day or office makeup look.
All these blushes and eye shadows are easy to blend and may be intensified. The palette pretty much covers day or natural and night makeup looks, which also makes the palette great for travel. I haven’t experienced any fall-outs except with Insane Jane probably because it was broken to begin with. Their longevity is quite good. The only downside is with the eye shadows as I’ve experienced creasing with them, but not after 10-12 hours.
I bought the palette at a discounted price because of the broken eye shadow. The original price was PhP1995, but I got this at PhP500 off. I know this seems pricey, but other palettes from the same brand are pricier and are not as distinct as this. This might be difficult to come by though.
theBalm is available in Beauty Bar online and in stores.
Lastly, another fyi, this would be the first in the next five days I would be reviewing blushes. Somebody requested me to make a review of my recommendations. Instead of making a master post, I thought I’d do a review per day. I know this first one’s a palette, but it does have the blushes I ♥ and very much recommend–Hot Mama & Instain Argyle. theBalm blushes btw go from PhP850-PhP895 each.
