Pony Effect Defense Longwear Cushion Foundation in Sand

I was curious with cushion foundations, but knowing it has less product and could cost the same or more compared to a full-size bottle foundation has kept me from trying it. However, I could see it so convenient for travel. As I had a few trips lined up last year, I had the urge to get one. So I got my hands on Pony Effect Defense Longwear Cushion Foundation. Gotta have a Korean brand for my first cushion foundation. 🙂

About the Cushion Foundation

The Pony Effect Defense Longwear Cushion Foundation has SPF50+ with PA+++, it has an Urban Defence Effect that protects skin from pollution, and is long-lasting while it provides moisture. The foundation comes in 7 shades–13 Fair, 21 Rosy Ivy, 21 Natural Ivy, 22 Rosy Beige, 22 Nude Beige, 23 Buff, 25 Sand. That might seem more shade options compared with other Korean brands, but the difference between shades don’t seem far off from one another.

The cushion foundation comes in a plastic square compact. A compact contains 15g of product and includes a sponge applicator. It comes with a refill when purchased (but mine was a destash, so I just got the compact and refill).

Review

I got the the supposedly darkest shade 25 Sand. It has a yellow undertone. I still found it a little light for my skin tone, yet I noticed that it blends with my skin after a few minutes. I also use a bronzer often, so it wasn’t a huge issue.

Coverage could be built to medium. Most of the time, I won’t have to apply concealer on any discoloration or acne scars, but just under my eyes.

I only set on my t-zone where I get really shiny, and any excess powder I just sweep on other parts of my face especially when I found I applied too much and can’t sheer it out with the applicator. One dab of the applicator is enough for my whole face, but I can sometimes go overboard when I feel I need more coverage.

Here are my pros and cons. Please note, I have oily skin.
✓ Moisturizing, which is great for my often-dehydrated skin
✓ Brightening
✓ Has medium coverage
✓ Applicator is the best I’ve used, so far, as it spreads foundation easily with just light and quick patting.
✗ As my skin is already oily, I don’t need any dewiness from my foundation. This gives my face an extra glow that I don’t need anymore. 😛
✗ Could settle on to and accentuate fine lines
✗ May only be purchased online. I know of the convenience of online shopping, but sometimes I like to test makeup first before buying.
✗ Sometimes it looks too cakey and like it just sits on tops of the skin

This has mixed reviews from both dry and oily skin people for reasons same as my cons. I’m one of the seemingly few who likes this even though there are days I just don’t. I think it works best on very good skin days. 😛 Would I repurchase? Maybe if I’ve run out of options and this has become cheaper, but there are other cushions I want to try.

Hard to say if I would recommend this. Probably if you have oily and dehydrated skin like I do, you could give this a try. It is definitely moisturizing. The applicator, on the other hand, I would gets extras of because they’re really good.

Where to Buy

I’ve only seen this on YesStyle for almost Php2000. Korean beauty sellers on Shopee might have it too.

About Pony Effect

Pony Effect is by popular Korean makeup artist Pony or Park Hye-Min. If you haven’t heard of Pony yet, that would be a shocker. 😛 Just kidding! She has nearly 4 million YouTube subs as of today. Only recently did I found out that the makeup tutorial photos I used to save many years ago were by her. She had a video recreating one of her old tutorials where she mentioned how she made those tutorials with just photos.

I love her and how she does her makeup. I may not be able to recreate her looks, but she does have good tips I use in my everyday makeup. 🙂

An engineer, gamer, aspiring photographer, and musician (former maybe?) who still keeps a journal and loves her dalmatian. She can’t be without coffee, tea, and wine. Also, of course, makeup! She lives a life in gratitude. Know her, connect with her on Twitter, Instagram, & Snapchat.
